Delay in cane crushing flayed: Khurram Sherzaman

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MPA Khurram Sherzaman said on Tuesday that the delay in issuing a notification for support price of sugarcane and running of sugar mills is an anti-farmers step and a policy to provide benefit to mill owners, which would never be accepted.

In a statement, he said that the sugarcane crop is ready in Sindh but a decision regarding its supporting price has yet to be decided. “The delay in crushing creates hurdles in wheat sowing. The farmers face a dilemma and history’s worst loss due to collusion of sugar mills.”

“The delay in crushing has created anxiety among farmers with each passing day. The Sindh government adopts such policy every year in a bid to provide benefit to the mill owners,” he said.

The PTI leader appealed to Sindh High Court Chief Justice to take a suo motto action against injustice with farmers due to the collusion of sugar mill owners and suppliers.

The PTI leader said, “The high price of electricity, pesticides and oil are already a burden on the farmers and now they are not getting reasonable prices set by the government which is tantamount to an enmity against the country.”
