Fed govt spends Rs 363bn on development in 2016-17

The government has so far released Rs 2,342 billion for various projects of the finance division out of a total allocation of Rs 9,115 billion earmarked under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2016-17.

An amount of Rs 500 million has been released for the Greater Karachi Water Supply Scheme (K-IV) out of its total allocations of Rs 1000 million allocated in the federal PSDP.

The project is being executed on 50:50 cost sharing basis, according to data from the ministry of planning, development, and reforms.

The government also released Rs400 million for the Gwadar Development Authority out of its total allocation of Rs 1000 million while Rs 163 million have been released for the construction of a flyover at Koyala Phattak, Samangli Road, Quetta.

According to the data, the federal government provided Rs280 million for the Greater Karachi Sewerage Project out of its 33 percent expenditure share in the project.

The government released Rs 160 million for the Khyber Institute of Child Health and Children Hospital (District Peshawar) out of its total allocations of Rs 400 million, while Rs 100 million have been provided for the widening and re-carpeting of Booni-Buzand Torkhow Road.

The government also releases Rs 160 million for the construction of a fish landing jetties and allied harbour facilities at Pishukan and Surbandar East Bay in Gwadar.

The federal government will provide 80% of the cost for both these projects.

An amount of Rs 58 million has been released for the construction of the eastern and the expansion of southern sewerage treatment plants under the Hyderabad package, while Rs 52 million have been provided for the construction and improvement of roads in urban areas of Hyderabad district.

As many as Rs172 billion have been provided for Phase-II of debt for education SWAP-II, while an amount of Rs 59 million has been released for capacity building of teacher training institutions and training of elementary school teachers in Punjab.

It is pertinent to mention here that the government has so far released Rs 363.980 billion for various ongoing and new projects of all ministries and divisions under the PSDP 2016-17 out of total allocations o f Rs800 billion.

The Planning Commission of Pakistan has been following the proper mechanism for the release of funds and releases 20% of the funds in each of the first three quarters, (July-September, October-December, and January-March) and 30% in the fourth quarter (April-June).
