COMSATS to hold 3-day workshop on techno-parks from Tuesday

ISLAMABAD: COMSATS Institute of  Information Technology (CIIT) Islamabad, is organising the first of its kind three-day international workshop from January 30 to February 1 titled  “Techno-Parks:  Opportunity to  Seize a Level of  Competitiveness”,  in order to bring forward discussion on challenges of establishing technology parks.

The effort will bring closer key stakeholders and build a critical mass of trained experts on the subject in Pakistan, a news release said on Monday.

The workshop will be inaugurated by the Science and Technology Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain at CIIT Islamabad Campus on Tuesday.

Fourteen international participants hailing from eight, OIC countries including Gambia, Nigeria, Sudan, Tunisia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran and Palestine will participate in the event.

The participants will share their experiences with their Pakistani counterparts on techno-parks around the Muslim-world and assist in brainstorming around a local model of techno-parks, suitable for Pakistan.

Techno-parks are cooperative clusters of organisations that generate technical knowledge and create an enabling environment, which converts scientific knowledge into marketable products and services and enable in the commercialisation of technology and help in technology transfer.

Both resource persons of the workshop carry the extensive experience of managing and consulting for techno-parks in Tunisia and various other developing countries.

The workshop is jointly supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, ECO-Science Foundation,  OIC Ministerial Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) and Inter-Islamic Network on Science and Technology Parks, Iran, as well as the Islamic Development Bank.
