World’s First Hydrogen-Powered Passenger carries out first successful test run

The Corada iLint, a zero-emissions train that runs on just steam and condensed water has successfully completed its first test run in Germany, media sources have reported. The trial test was carried out at the company’s own track in Salzgitter, Lower Saxony with passenger test runs are scheduled for start of 2018.

The train’s French manufacturer Alstom is renowned for designing environmentally-friendly rail solutions.

The Coradia iLint, can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h, is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, which produces electrical power for the traction.

The German state of Lower Saxony has placed a requisition for 14 trains from Alstom, while Netherlands, Norway, and Denmark are also keen on getting the trains. Based on the initial results, the train has the potential to make its way to several countries in the coming years.
