Industrial development programme for Pakistan launched

UNIDO's country programme for Pakistan aims to develop a roadmap towards inclusive and sustainable industrial growth

ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and the Ministry of Industries and Production (MoIP) have signed an accord to formally launch the organisation’s Country Programme (CP) for Pakistan.

“UNIDO’s CP for Pakistan is the result of a successful track record between the ministry and the organisation,” said MoIP Secretary Aamir Ashraf Khawaja on Wednesday. “Industrialisation is a long-term endeavour of the government that involves multiple stakeholders; emphasis will therefore be placed on strengthening synergies and minimising duplication by collaborating with development cooperation partners, state and non-state actors, including the private sector.”

As a framework based on established national priorities, the CP will be a useful guide for UNIDO’s programmatic interventions in Pakistan until 2022. In doing so, the CP will enhance UNIDO’s support to the government in developing and implementing a roadmap towards inclusive and sustainable industrial development.

“When designing the CP, UNIDO aligned its priorities to those set by the government through its national development plan (including the 100-day agenda) and Pakistan Vision 2025, as well as through its endorsement of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and One UN programme III,” said Ralf Bredel, Chief of UNIDO’s Regional Division for Asia and the Pacific. “In different countries, similar UNIDO CPs have brought positive changes to the countries’ industrial landscape, also because CPs provide a platform for sharing successful practices, lessons learnt and to support coordination between relevant ministries.”

The CP was formulated in close consultation with all relevant stakeholders and will promote industrial growth and competitiveness, trade, industrial infrastructure and green industry.

The signing event was attended by MoIP officials as well as by representatives of other relevant ministries and institutions.

  1. Janaab foremost you should better look into the crippled road and infrastructure of already existing industrial areas specially karachi. How sad it is to have worst roads where over the country’s revenue generating vehicles pass every day.
