‘Efforts underway to streamline real estate, jewellery sectors’

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi said that there were some areas in the real estate business where an effective evaluation was required.

Talking to a private news channel, he said apart from the real estate sector, the documentation of gems & jewellery industry would also be ensured in the near future.

On a query, he said that tax worth Rs2,080 billion was collected during the last six months of the FY20. “Out of the total, approximately Rs71 billion were collected from five export-oriented sectors.”

He said the government would soon introduce a “Point of Sales” system in restaurants, as 16pc general sales tax was not being transferred to the concerned department.
