Govt committed to facilitating AJK development projects: Asad Umar

ISLAMABAD: Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Minister Asad Umar has assured the Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan that the federal government would provide complete support to the development efforts of the AJK government. 

In a meeting with the AJK prime minister on Thursday, the planning minister said that the pace of work on the ongoing projects under Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) was being accelerated. 

He said that tourism was a high priority area for the government and that Pakistan was now being ranked among the top tourism destinations. “It is therefore imperative for us to further enhance tourism facilities. The federal government will provide complete support for the improvement of tourism-related infrastructure in AJK.” 

Speaking on the occasion, the AJK prime minister stated that the financial position of AJK has improved considerably in the recent past. He appreciated the support extended by the federal government for the development of AJK and stressed on the need to improve the road links. 

He said the improvement of major road links would not only be beneficial for the local population but would also help the government materialise the real tourism potential of the region. 

During the meeting, issues pertaining to Mansehra-Muzaffarabad-Mirpur Expressway, Lower Topa Kohala Road and Athmuqam-Taobat Road also came under discussion.
