Garment exports surge 12.8pc in 1HFY20

ISLAMABAD: The export of readymade garments during the first half of the current financial year witnessed an increase of 12.08pc as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

During the July-December FY20 period, the country exported about 31.53 million dozen of readymade garments ($1.411 billion) as compared to the exports of 23.83 million dozen during the same period of last year ($1.259 billion).

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, textile group exports during the period under review recorded 3.94pc growth, from $6.644 million last year to $6.905 billion.

On a month-on-month basis, textile exports grew by 0.36pc in December 2019, from $1.138 billion in Dec 2018 to $1.142 billion.

During the first six months of the current financial year, the country also managed to register a growth in knitwear exports, from $1.475 billion in 6MFY19 to $1.587 billion in 6MFY20.

Similarly, bedwear exports inched up from $1.116 billion in 6MFY19 to $1.197 billion, while towel exports during the period under review also registered a minor growth of 0.22pc, from $378.017 million to $378.846 million.

It is pertinent to mention that during the period under review, exports in rupee terms surged by 24.82pc to Rs1.805 billion as against the exports of Rs1.446 billion during July-December FY19.
