Four small cattle markets to be established outside Islamabad

Plans regarding establishment of single market inside the city have been dropped due to Covid-19 concerns

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on the directions of National Command Operation Center (NCOC) and district magistrate has decided to establish four small cattle markets outside the city, before Eid ul azha.

According to sources the ICT administration will establish four small cattle markets at Rawat, Tramri, Bara Kahu and Tarnol.

The cattle markets will be set up outside the city, in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and Congo virus within the city limits.

According to sources, the ICT administration has finalised the auction schedule for the markets. In case the administration is unable to receive a bid, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) will establish the markets with the help of union councils.

Earlier, plans regarding the establishment of a single market at sector I-11 were under consideration, but were later dropped due to concerns that a larger market will increase spread of Covid-19.

The ICT administration has also issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for cattle markets in order to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

As per the SOPs, sanitisation tunnels, eateries and food services will not be allowed inside the markets. Moreover, the entry of children and senior citizens will also be banned.
