ISLAMABAD: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FPCCI) management has failed to safeguard the interests of the business community and was unable to give any solid recommendations to the government for economic revival in the last three years, the Businessmen Panel (BMP) said.
In a joint statement issued on Sunday, the leaders of the BMP said that the business community pinned high hopes on the United Business Group (UBG) but only to get disappointed.
The UBG under the leadership of former CEO of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), SM Muneer, and Iftikhar Malik are controlling the FPCCI and they are only interested in promoting personal interests at the expense of the business community, they added.
The business leaders said that the FPCCI continued to support the government’s policies for the last three years but has not been able to furnish any plan for economic betterment or the welfare of the business community.
The research and development department of the FPCCI, as dysfunctional as any other department, has badly damaged the repute of the chamber.
On the other hand, Pakistan Business Council and some other associations have worked hard to provide recommendations to the government which has added to their prestige.
FPCCI is failing on every front and it hasn’t issued even a single laudable report in the last three years while the apex chamber of India continues to employ dozens of PhDs and business experts.
It was further said that if the role of FPCCI has been reduced to useless meetings and photo sessions then there is no need to spend millions of rupees on this institution.
They also demanded that the FPCCI must follow international standards on a priority basis to work according to the expectations of the business community.
