Chinese company calls on Sheikh Rasheed, discusses railways projects

ISLAMABAD: China Harbour Engineering Company’s (CHEC’s) General Manager, Wang XiaoFeng Thursday called on the Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad at the Ministry of Railways.

Both the sides discussed matters of mutual cooperation and the minister asked the CHEC GM to provide concrete proposals for the development of Pakistan Railways, said a press release issued here.

“Pakistan and China are enjoying cordial relations and all good proposals from CHEC Company will be welcomed,” the minister added.

CHEC showed interest in working with Pakistan Railways at a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis for the construction of the Inland Container Depot (Dry Port) at Marshalling Yard Pipri (MYP).

The company also showed an interest in the use of Pakistan’s railway network to operate shuttle freight trains to transport containers between the Karachi Port and the Marshalling Yard in Pipri, Karachi.

The meeting was also attended by Ministry of Railways Chairman Javed Anwar, Chief Executive Officer Aftab Akbar, Secretary Railways Board Farukh Taimur Ghilzai, and the Technical Director General, Munawar Shah.
