KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said that youngsters are the biggest asset of Pakistan and his government is giving due to attention to financially empower them for the country’s progress.
Addressing the launch ceremony of the Kamyab Jawan Programme in Karachi, he said that such programmes are vital in the development of all countries. “A society can only develop when its youth is given opportunities to lift the nation out of poverty,” he added.
He also said that Pakistan ranks second in the world when it comes to its population of youngsters and it is important that their talent is harnessed for progress and prosperity of the country.
He further said that under the Hunarmand Jawan Programme, the government started schemes for skill development of youngsters. “Pakistan’s youth can change its economic circumstances,” he added.
Speaking about the programme, the prime minister said that it is aimed at empowering the youth and its success will depend on awarding loans on merit. “Merit defines the success of any society. Programmes fail when dishonesty prevails and meritocracy is ignored,” he added.
He said that the country is blessed with rich mineral deposits, cultural sites and other blessings. “Our country is endowed with rich talent but that was not given attention in past,” he added.
Citing the success of overseas Pakistanis, the premier said that is only due to merit in those societies. He regretted that in past institutions of the country weakened due to ignoring merit and giving preference to people on the basis of nepotism.
He said that Ehsaas program started by the government at the cost of Rs190 billion was helping the government in uplifting the downtrodden and poor masses of the country.
