NEPRA raises power tariff by Re0.48 per unit

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a notification to increase the price of electricity by Re0.4828 per unit, putting an overall burden of Rs5 billion on the consumers.

According to a notification issued by NEPRA on Monday, the authority, after incorporating the aforementioned adjustments, has reviewed and assessed an increase of Re0.4828/kWh in the applicable tariff for XWDISCOs on account of variations in the fuel charges for the month of August 2020.

NEPRA said that the fuel cost per unit of electricity production in August was Rs3.68 while the advance fuel cost was fixed at Rs3.20 per unit.

As per the notification, additional collection from consumers will be taken in the context of the November bill, however, the decision will not apply to K-Electric and lifeline consumers.

Furthermore, additional collection shall be shown separately in the consumers’ bills on the basis of units billed to the consumers in the month of August 2020. XWDISCOs shall reflect the fuel charges adjustment in respect of August 2020 in the billing month of November 2020.

“While putting into effect the fuel adjustment charges, the concerned XWDISCOs shall keep in view and strictly comply with the orders of the courts notwithstanding this order,” the notification read.
