The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced that flight operations at the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIAP) will begin in January 2025.
Efforts are underway to meet the operational deadline, with staff deployment and necessary arrangements in progress.
Acting Director General Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Zeeshan Saeed, along with Deputy DG Airports Engr Sadiq Ur Rehman and Project Director Engr Faiz Ullah Khattak, conducted an inspection of the airport. According to a PAA spokesperson, the facility has adequate accommodations for staff and is expected to be ready by the specified timeline.
The delegation engaged with stakeholders, including representatives from the Gwadar Development Authority, Gwadar Port Authority, Gwadar Chamber of Commerce, Pakistan Navy, and Pakistan Army. Project Director Khattak emphasized the airport’s features and its significance for regional business and investment opportunities.
NGIAP, developed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), involves an investment of USD 246 million with Chinese support. The facility includes a terminal building and a runway capable of handling large aircraft.
The Air Security Force (ASF) has confirmed the deployment of 400 security personnel at the airport.
