Ministry of Housing proposes increase in rental ceiling for federal employees

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Housing and Works has submitted a summary to the Finance Division, recommending an increase in the rental ceiling for federal employees.

The proposal, which suggests revising current rental rates, is based on a report by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics highlighting significant increases in house rents over the past four years.

State-run news agency APP reported, citing an official spokesperson from the ministry who confirmed that the summary was forwarded to the Finance Division about three weeks ago, but has yet to receive a response.

The spokesperson emphasised that Minister for Housing and Works, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, remains committed to securing maximum relief for federal employees, especially concerning housing matters. The spokesperson added, "the minister adopts a problem-solving approach and has consistently advocated for the legitimate rights of federal employees."

Typically, the government reviews the rental ceiling every three years, with the last revision taking place in 2021. As four years have passed since that adjustment, the rising house rents, particularly in major cities, are placing additional financial strain on employees.
