The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved various development schemes in the Wildlife and Roads sectors, totaling Rs15,765.207 million, during its 20th meeting of the current fiscal year on Monday.
The meeting, presided over by Dr. Naeem Rauf, Chairman of the Planning & Development Board Punjab, saw the approval of the “Strengthening and Capacity Building of the Wildlife Department for the Conservation of Wildlife in Punjab” project, with a revised cost of Rs3,631.564 million. Also approved was the “Revamping and Experience Development of Bahawalpur Zoo” at a cost of Rs3,479.820 million.Â
In addition, the PDWP greenlighted the construction of an additional Ring Road from Bahawalpur Railway Station to Bino Hospital at Rs1,628.492 million, and the rehabilitation of the Metalled Road from Sahiwal to Pakpattan, estimated at Rs4,518.906 million.Â
The “Rehabilitation of Sammundri-Sahiwal Road (Revised)” was also approved at Rs2,456.425 million. The final project approved was a Rs50 million feasibility study for the installation of a chairlift and cable car from Lakot to Pindi Point in Murree.
During the meeting, Dr. Naeem Rauf emphasized that the approved schemes would significantly improve road infrastructure and connectivity in Punjab, while also contributing to wildlife conservation efforts and eco-tourism. He added that these initiatives align with the government’s commitment to sustainable development, improved mobility, and the preservation of the province’s natural heritage. The meeting was attended by P&D Board Secretary Rafaqat Ali, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, and other senior officials.
