NTDC, industries ministry discuss energy-efficient models to cut costs, boost sustainability

SAPM Haroon Akhtar directs Engineering Development Board to coordinate with NTDC on implementing energy-saving building and industrial models

The Chairman of the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) on Wednesday met Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, and briefed him on new energy-efficient models aimed at improving industrial and domestic energy use.

According to an official statement, the NTDC Chairman highlighted that proper insulation in buildings can play a critical role in conserving energy by maintaining stable internal temperatures. He informed the meeting that Energy Use Building Codes have been introduced under federal directives to promote energy efficiency, with implementation already underway.

Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasised that adopting modern technology and sustainable energy solutions is essential for Pakistan’s industrial and economic growth. He noted that energy demand spikes during the summer months, and insulation in buildings can help reduce both transmission costs and seasonal load pressures.

“Pakistan’s GDP growth is closely linked with energy costs,” the SAPM said, adding that adopting sustainable practices in industries is vital to enhance competitiveness across the region.

He instructed the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to work closely with NTDC and submit a progress report on the rollout of energy-efficient models.

Separately, Haroon Akhtar Khan was invited by a delegation from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) to participate in the upcoming Asia Transit Summit 2025.
