ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday that the country’s prosperity was dependent upon industrial development and stressed upon provision of all facilities to this sector.

The prime minister also underlined the need to resolve issues being faced by the industrial sector, especially the small and medium industries, while keeping in view the current financial situation and the negative impacts caused by coronavirus pandemic.

The prime minister was chairing a meeting that discussed industrial development and highlighted issues being faced by the small and medium enterprises, the PM Office’s media wing said in a press release.

The meeting was attended by Industries Minister Hammad Azhar, Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar, Energy Minister Omar Ayub, Adviser to PM on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, Special Assistants to PM Nadeem Babar and Tabish Gohar, and secretaries of finance, energy and petroleum divisions.

The PM took stock of the issues faced by the small industries, including the expensive electricity, and considered various proposals in this regard.

Imran Khan observed that expensive power was the main hurdle in the development of small industries, as it increased their production cost. Indigenous products could not compete with the foreign stuff under the current circumstances, he added.

Welcoming different proposals for the promotion of industrial process, the PM stressed the need to make all-out efforts to fully utilize the current resources and capacities.

He also directed the officials to give a final shape to proposals regarding energy issues faced by the industrial sector so that these could be implemented at the earliest.
