Kohat cement to establish grey cement production line

In a notification sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday, Kohat Cement has decided to establish a grey production cement line at its existing plant site having cement production capacity of around 7,800 tons daily.

Kohat Cement originally named State Cement Company of Pakistan was established in 1984 with the ability to produce 1,000 tons of cement daily. It was privatized in open bidding by the government in 1992. The new management headed by Aizaz Sheikh (CEO) undertook an extensive BMR program in 1995 funded by proceeds of a public offering and a commercial debt. The capacity of the Plant was enhanced to 1,800 TPD by engaging KHD a renowned German Company

KCCL has been in an expansion mode since then and timely converted to coal firing, established a white cement plant 450 TPD Capacity, set up a new grey cement line of 6,700 TPD capacity and also established a standby power plant of 22.4 MW capacity.

A Bloomberg report last week claimed that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has led to a major resurgence and boom for the Pakistani cement industry. As cited in the report, it is expected that Pakistan’s cement production capacity will rise from 56m tons to 70m tons within a span of five years. The report also mentioned that cement producers like Gharibwal Cement is doubling their capacity by August to more than 13,000 tons a day due to a rise in demand for CPEC projects.
