Pakistan urged to adopt digital manufacturing model to boost exports

SAPM Haroon Akhtar highlights industrial policy and technology-driven production at international summit

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan said digital transformation is reshaping the future of manufacturing and stressed the need to adopt a transformative model to accelerate time-to-market, reduce costs, and enhance global credibility to boost exports.

Addressing the International Summit on Redefining Digital Manufacturing, the SAPM noted that countries such as the UK, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and Singapore have successfully transformed their economies through industrialization, according to a press release.

The summit showcased advanced technologies, including 3D scanning, additive manufacturing, and zero-defect production, which will allow Pakistani manufacturers to achieve millimeter-level precision, cut prototyping time from weeks to days, and deliver export-ready products at scale.

Haroon said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Pakistan has launched its first-ever comprehensive industrial policy, aimed at creating a robust and competitive industrial ecosystem. The policy reflects Pakistan’s ambition to integrate into the Fourth Industrial Revolution by moving from traditional assembly-line production to design-led, connected, and technology-driven manufacturing.

“Every partnership formed here today is a step toward ensuring Pakistan’s industries do not just survive the next decade of global competition, but lead it,” he said. He added that Pakistan’s SMEs will be empowered through shared digital platforms and accredited labs, enabling them to meet international standards and become certified suppliers in global value chains.

He further emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to aligning diplomacy with industrial delivery. Following the Prime Minister’s recent visit to China, the government is actively pursuing industrial relocation, co-development, and technology transfer, moving swiftly from MoUs to operational clusters with production-ready outputs in record time.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, held a meeting with the President of the Mirpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Tuesday to discuss Pakistan’s new industrial policy.

The discussions covered opportunities for joint ventures with China, investment in the textile sector, and the development of solar and battery manufacturing capacity, according to a news release.

Haroon Akhtar said that under the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan is progressing steadily, highlighting that the recent visit to China had been productive and is expected to pave the way for new joint ventures.

“Due to the tireless efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, investment from China is continuously flowing into Pakistan,” he added.

He emphasized that value addition is essential to boost Pakistan’s exports and announced the establishment of a Technical Assistance Center in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to equip youth with modern industrial skills. “AJK offers vast opportunities for investment and industrial development,” he noted.

The MCCI President congratulated Haroon Akhtar on the formulation of the new industrial policy and said a delegation from AJK will soon travel to China to explore investment and joint venture opportunities.

In a separate meeting, a delegation from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) also met with the SAPM to discuss challenges faced by chambers across the country. Haroon Akhtar assured the delegation that the government is committed to resolving these issues as a priority.
