Pakistan to launch National Resilience Plan 2025-2026 to strengthen disaster preparedness

Government focuses on reducing losses and enhancing response mechanisms for future natural disasters

The Government of Pakistan is in the process of finalizing the National Resilience Plan 2025-2026 to enhance preparedness for the 2026 monsoon season and reduce the devastation caused by natural disasters.

Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, chaired a meeting with Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), to finalize strategies under the plan, as announced in a press release.

Dr. Malik emphasized that the framework must be outcome-oriented, with clear strategies to minimize losses of human lives, infrastructure, crops, and livestock. He stressed the importance of a robust mechanism capable of delivering tangible results for vulnerable communities.

Chairman NDMA highlighted the need to map vulnerable regions and customize preparedness and response strategies based on localized risks such as floods, cloudbursts, glacial melt, GLOFs, and landslides.

Dr. Malik also pointed out the fragmented nature of the current disaster response system and called for its integration into a unified, streamlined framework. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with NDMA and other stakeholders to ensure an effective and coordinated disaster management strategy.
