The SITE Association of Industries (SAI) has sharply criticized Pakistan’s telecom operators and internet service providers for their consistent network failures, calling their performance substandard and detrimental to business operations.
Industrialists from Karachi’s largest industrial zone expressed frustration over frequent internet outages and weak mobile signals, which they say have severely affected communication channels and threatened industrial productivity.
SAI President Ahmed Azeem Alvi reported that slow internet speeds and poor mobile connectivity had caused significant disruptions in both domestic and international business communications for several consecutive days. He warned that these technical issues, if left unresolved, could lead to major financial losses for Pakistan’s business community.
Alvi made a direct appeal to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urging immediate action to address the crisis. He emphasized that the inability to maintain communication with foreign buyers had already resulted in disruptions to export orders and trade commitments. “Reliable communication is the backbone of industrial operations,” Alvi stated. “When mobile networks and internet services fail, exporters cannot engage with international clients or secure new business opportunities.”
The SAI president further expressed concern that the ongoing connectivity issues were undermining Pakistan’s export potential and diminishing its competitiveness in the global market.
Alvi urged the prime minister to intervene urgently, calling on telecom companies to improve their infrastructure and service quality to ensure uninterrupted business operations and protect the country’s industrial growth.
