SAPM Haroon Akhtar urges joint ventures to boost farm equipment manufacturing, create jobs

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan has called for enhanced local production and technological collaboration in Pakistan’s agricultural machinery sector.

He made these remarks during a meeting with LiuGong Agricultural Machinery CEO Frank Wang and leading tractor manufacturers on Wednesday. The discussion focused on the introduction of modern tractor technology, sugarcane harvesting machinery, and the promotion of local manufacturing of agricultural equipment.

LiuGong is a Chinese multinational company that manufactures construction and industrial machinery. Frank Wang briefed participants on LiuGong’s global operations, stating that the company produces a wide range of heavy machinery including cranes, loaders, excavators, tractors, and bulldozers. He added that LiuGong also provides technical training to its partners in agricultural machinery and sugarcane harvesting technologies.

Haroon Akhtar emphasised the need for joint ventures between Pakistani tractor manufacturers and LiuGong to strengthen local production capacity and encourage technology transfer.

He said that integrating advanced agricultural technology with local manufacturing was essential to improve productivity and efficiency in the sector.

He added that expanding local machinery production would generate employment opportunities and open new avenues for export. The SAPM assured that the government would provide full support to domestic manufacturers adopting modern technology to strengthen Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural base.
