Saleem Anwar appointed acting President/CEO of Askari Bank

LAHORE: Askari Bank Limited has appointed Saleem Anwar as acting President and CEO of the bank replacing Syed. M Hussaini at the helm.

A stock market notification sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday by Askari Bank revealed Syed. M Hussaini had ceased to be the President and CEO of the bank with effect from 28th March 2018.

Previously, Mr. Anwar served as Chief Financial Officer of Askari Bank Limited.

He also served as Company Secretary, Senior Vice President and Divisional Head of Finance for Askari Bank Limited.

Mr. Anwar joined the Askari Bank Limited in June 2008. He has diversified work experience spanning over 24 years in the field of accounting, finance, planning, tax and corporate affairs, both in Pakistan and abroad. He started his professional career with A. F. Ferguson & Co. Chartered Accountants (affiliates of PriceWaterHouse Coopers International)

After that he joined the erstwhile Al Faysal Investment Bank, the largest investment bank in Pakistan. He moved to commercial banking in 2002 and worked in several capacities with banks in Pakistan and abroad. His last major assignment was with Mashreq Bank (Badr Al Islami), Dubai, UAE, as head of special projects.

His predecessor Mr. Hussaini joined Askari Bank as President and CEO in June 2013. Previously, Mr. Hussaini had a distinguished career in the banking sector serving as President, KASB Bank and head of corporate banking at Muslim Commercial Bank (MCB) and National Bank of Pakistan.

He did his master’s in economics from Karachi University and has obtained professional certifications from the National Association of Securities Dealers, USA and North American Securities Administrators Association.

Askari Bank Limited provides banking products and services to individual and corporate customers primarily in Pakistan and the Middle East.

AKBL stocks were trading at Rs22.75, up Rs0.36 (+1.61 percent). KSE-100 index was trading at 45,301.18 points, up 128.19 points (+0.28 percent) from close on Wednesday.
