Knitwear sector sees 16pc export growth in Jan

KARACHI: The knitted garments sector was leading the textile chain exports of the country, registering a growth of 16.25pc in the month of January 2019, as compared to January 2018.

“Knitwear garment exports increased by 11.35pc during July-January 2018-19 as compared to the same period of last year,” said Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association Central Chairman Muhammad Jawed Bilwani in a statement on Tuesday.

He said with due support and incentives from the government in the light of the garments exporters’ proposals, this sector would achieve new milestones and its export could be enhanced by 20pc every year.

“The knitwear garment sector was topping the textile group exports for the last three years. It also provided the highest employment in the textile sector,” Bilwani informed.

The knitwear sector included knitted products of hoodies, shirts, T-shirts, jerseys, pullovers, trousers, jackets etc. The world imports $225 billion worth knitwear products annually.

Jawed Bilwani appreciated the government for taking necessary measures regarding the enhancement of exports by giving priority to export sectors and by introducing separate tariff of gas and electricity.
