‘Crackdown against non-filers to be launched in May’

State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government would initiate a crackdown against non-filers in May, Radio Pakistan reported.

As per details, he said the government has received information about four to five million non-filers in the country.

The minister asserted that the tax evaders would have to face action as the department concerned would be checking all non-filers across the country.

He said another operation related to fake accounts would also be launched to discourage such trends in the country.

Meanwhile, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing of income tax returns and statements for the tax year 2018 till April 30th. The FBR has urged citizens, who had not yet filed their returns, to take advantage of this opportunity.

The tax collection body has extensive plans to pursue and legally proceed against those persons who are liable to file returns but do not file it by this extended date.

On the other hand, for the first time in its history, FBR has crossed the mark of 1,800,000 income tax filers for the tax year 2018. The institution is also geared to act against those guilty of not fulfilling their tax obligations.
