Chinese company mulls to invest in Islamabad IT zone

Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood on Wednesday met a Chinese delegation of investors, inviting them to explore the investment opportunities in the information technology (IT) sector of Pakistan.

The PM’s adviser appraised the delegation regarding the investment-friendly policies of Pakistan and urged the delegation to explore the untapped potential of the IT sector by bringing investments into Pakistan, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce.

The Chinese delegation comprised of members of the China Railways Construction Cooperation (CRCCI), which is one of the largest integrated developers and contractors having strategic partnerships with top-notch IT companies.

Dawood underscored the special incentives provided to the investors in the Islamabad IT Special Economic Zone.

The CRCCI managing director lauded Pakistan’s business-friendly policies and informed the participants that his company intended to undertake Islamabad SEZ project as part of a public-private partnership between Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) and CRCCI.

He underlined that CRCCI was committed to investing in the development of Islamabad SEZ without financially burdening the Pakistan government.

“The project aims to develop an IT zone in Islamabad with state-of-the-art infrastructure, superior connectivity and smart facilities,” he added.

The MD further stated that the proposed project would bring immense benefits to Pakistan as the country would be able to attract top IT companies for investment.

“The project will provide safe, convenient and affordable office spaces to nurture homegrown IT businesses and will generate thousands of new jobs for Pakistani IT talent, besides increasing the competitiveness of Pakistan’s IT product in global market,” he added.

The adviser appreciated the CRCCI’s investment proposal and assured of his complete cooperation in pushing the project forward.

Moreover, he stressed that the CRCCI should collaborate with local Pakistani IT firms and companies in order to transfer the technological know-how and create jobs for local IT human resource.
