FTO takes suo moto notice of FBR online system’s failure

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) has taken suo moto notice of the failure of the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) online system which did not allow people to submit asset declaration under the tax amnesty scheme for tax year 2019.

The failure of FBR’s system did not permit people to avail amnesty despite having submitted tax returns worth Rs2.6 billion within the prescribed time. In this regard, the ombudsman sought a response from the revenue authority over the issue of non-disclosure of assets despite the submission of tax challans.

The FTO took notice of the situation following numerous complaints filed by the Pakistan Tax Bar Association and sought reply from FBR under notice number 11/2020.

According to reports, the FBR prepared a preliminary report and sent it to the FTO in which it said that there were 12,000 individuals who submitted the challans of tax dues under the amnesty scheme but failed to submit the declaration of assets.
