PTA requested to block booking.com, direct selling websites

Habibullah Siddiqui, senior Vice Chairman Central Standing Committee of Tourism & Travel (2017) of the FPCCI, has requested Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block Booking.com and other direct selling websites for being unregistered with legal authorities, media sources have reported.

Raising fears, Habibullah stated that booking.com and similar websites and applications have no stake in Pakistan and are causing financial damage to the domestic tourism industry. He went on to add that such international players should register themselves with tax and revenue authorities in the country, FBR, SECP and get enlisted on the stock exchange. He stated that such websites should be blocked since they were not only causing damage to the local travel and tourism providers in the country but were also interfering with the fiscal polices of the country.

Furthermore, he urged the Finance Minister and PM of Pakistan to intervene into the matter.
