Jewellery exports up 41pc in July

The exports of jewellery from the country witnessed increase of 40.97 per cent during the first month of the current fiscal year compared to the same month of last year.

According to the latest data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), jewellery worth $0.640 million was exported during July (2016-17) compared to the exports of $0.454 million in July (2015-16).

However, as compared to the exports of $1.310 million recorded in June 2016, the exports of jewellery witnessed decline of 41.15 per cent during July 2016.

It is pertinent to mention here that the exports from the country during the first month of the current fiscal year were recorded at $1.479 billion.

As compared to the exports of $1.588 billion of the same month of the last fiscal year (2015-16), the exports in July 2016 witnessed negative growth of 6.86 per cent.

On the other hand, the imports into the country during July 2016 were recorded at $3.557 billion, compared to the imports of $3.348 billion in July 2015, showing increase of 6.24 per cent.

Based on the figures, the trade deficit during July 2016 increased by 18.07 per cent compared to the deficit of July 2015. The trade deficit during July 2016 was recorded at $2.078 billion compared to the deficit of $1.760 during July 2015.
