Why not technology?

The federal government appointed Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad as the chairperson of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee by removing the previous chairman Mufti Muneeb. Mufti Muneeb has been paying his services as a member of the assession since 1997. However, the newly established committee is comprised of 19 members which is to be led by Maulana Khabir.

Meetings of this committee are held every month for seeing the moon. Very large amount of funds are spent on this committee every year besides salaries of constituents. The government has to bear all expenditures of the committee. However, this is unnecessary in the modern era. It is an extra burden on the economy of the country. Pakistan is a developing country and it can’t afford any extra expense as the economy is already lowered and resisted with the advent of COVID-19 pandemic.

As the minister of science and technology Fawad Choudhary said that this committee should to wiped out. I am totally agree with the Choudhary. By the termination of this committee, a whopping amount of funds can be saved which would be used on the welfare of the public. Where others countries are using modern techniques to see the moon there we are using committees and large telescopes for seeing the moon. Instead of using large telescopes we can point out the moon with satellite technology. Which would be more cheap and easy than this old technology. In the era of science, we can easily make calendar of upcoming decades. Therefore, it is unimportant to invest on old methodological organizations and institutions.

In spite of having advancement in Science and technology why should we use Ruet-e-Hilal Committee? It would be a foolishness to prefer that in the modern ages of Science.
