Supreme Court mandates E-Filing, Digital Issuance under 2025 Rules

New rules enhance efficiency, requiring electronic submission and digital processing of petitions, notices, and certified copies

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has officially implemented the Supreme Court Rules, 2025, replacing the outdated Supreme Court Rules, 1980, with immediate effect. These reforms reflect the Court’s commitment to modernizing and digitalizing the justice system, ensuring procedural clarity in line with global governance standards.

Under the new rules, all petitions and paper books must be filed electronically, with scanned copies now mandatory. Additionally, notices, orders, and pleadings will be issued digitally, and video link hearings are permitted. This move aims to simplify the judicial process, ensuring faster and more transparent proceedings.

Other key changes include revised court fees, enhanced advocate compensation, and formal recognition of constitutional benches. Furthermore, the rules introduce a formal system for addressing frivolous appeals and revising the registration process for advocates.

The new regulations promise to improve judicial efficiency, enhance transparency, and ensure access to justice, with regular reviews and adjustments scheduled every three years.
