Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, chaired a meeting on Thursday aimed at addressing bottlenecks in Pakistan’s meat exports to Malaysia.
The meeting, attended by Secretary of Industries and Production Saif Anjum, representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, Green Corporate Livestock Initiative, and various public and private sector stakeholders, focused on the challenges limiting meat exports.
Key issues identified included high production costs, rising utility expenses, smuggling, and the lack of boneless meat processing facilities. Participants discussed potential solutions to these problems to increase Pakistan’s meat exports, especially to Malaysia, where halal meat is in high demand.
Khan emphasized that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is committed to boosting meat exports, particularly halal-certified beef and buffalo meat. He noted that some segments of the meat industry remain undocumented, stressing the need for formalization to improve transparency and traceability.
Khan assured that the government is dedicated to supporting investors and will ensure compliance with international quality and hygiene standards in meat exports.
He also called for a collaborative effort between public and private sectors to strengthen Pakistan’s competitiveness in the regional market.
