Imports of agricultural and other chemicals into the country increased by 4.77 percent during the first five months of the current financial year compared to the same period last year.
From July to November 2024, agricultural chemicals worth $3.7 billion were imported, up from $3.531 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year, according to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data.
Fertilizer imports grew by 57.31 percent during the period, with 628,418 metric tons worth $382.184 million imported, compared to 462,043 metric tons valued at $242.955 million in the same period last year. However, insecticide imports declined by 35.12 percent, with 10,767 metric tons worth $55.018 million imported, compared to 16,014 metric tons valued at $84.804 million in the corresponding period.
Plastic material imports rose by 2.46 percent during the period, with 809,029 metric tons costing $1.2 billion imported. Similarly, medicinal product imports increased by 17.80 percent, with 15,678 metric tons worth $511.477 million brought into the country, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to PBS data.
