The government has finalized a comprehensive plan to provide Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) connections to households across Pakistan, aimed at meeting the growing energy demand.
The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Ali Pervaiz Malik, the Federal Minister for Petroleum, on Friday. The meeting reviewed the roll-out plan for RLNG connections to domestic users. It was attended by key officials including the Secretary of Petroleum, the Additional Secretary, the Director General of Gas, representatives of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), and the Managing Directors of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL).
The Managing Directors of SNGPL and SSGCL presented a strategy for the effective implementation of the government’s plan, aiming to provide RLNG domestic connections within the first year.
To facilitate the public, the application process will be simplified, allowing consumers to apply online through the official websites and mobile apps of the Sui companies, in addition to the traditional in-person method at local offices.
Malik emphasized that the initiative is a key priority for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to meet the growing demand for clean and affordable energy. “This step is being taken to fulfil the long-standing demand for new domestic gas connections,” he said.
He added that RLNG, which is about 30% cheaper than LPG, is a safer and more energy-efficient option for households, offering significant economic relief.
To ensure effective oversight, the minister directed the creation of dedicated Project Management Offices (PMOs) at SNGPL and SSGCL to monitor the process, track progress, and address public grievances.
Additionally, it was decided that applicants who have already paid for a demand note can submit the remaining differential amount along with a security fee to qualify for an RLNG connection under this new initiative.
