Seafood exports increase by 17.64 per cent in first quarter

 

ISLAMABAD: The exports of fish and fish preparations increased by 17.64 per cent during the first quarter of the current fiscal year compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The country exported fish and fish preparations worth US $75.370 million during July-September (2017-18) as compared to the exports of US $64.066 million in July-September (2016-17), showing an increase of 17.64 per cent, according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

In terms of quantity, the seafood exports from the country witnessed an increase of 29.63 per cent as it went up from 21,959 metric tonnes last year to 28,466 metric tonnes during the current fiscal year, the data revealed.

The total food exports from the country during the period under review increased by 17.52 per cent by going up from the exports of $631.731 million last year to $742.391 million during the current year.

Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, the seafood exports from the country increased by 15.95 per cent in September 2017 as compared to the exports of the same month last year.

The seafood exports in September 2017 were recorded at $40.097 million against the exports of $34.580 million in September 2016.In terms of quantity, the seafood exports increased by 25.03 per cent in September 2017 by going up from 11,852 metric tonnes in last September to 14,818 metric tonnes in September 2017. On a month-on-month basis, the seafood exports in dollar terms increased by 75.86 per cent in September 2017 when compared to the exports of $22.8 million in August 2017, according to the PBS data.
