Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council welcomes Pakistan’s high commissioner

KAULA LUMPUR: Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council (MALPAK), which was established in 2010 with the initiative of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (NCCIM) to help in the effective implementation of the 2007 Malaysia-Pakistan Closer Economic Partnership Agreement (MPCEPA), was revived last month.

MALPAK successfully held an election to choose its Chairman, Dato’ Seri Nazir Merselam, a renowned businessman in the construction sector, and other office bearers. The business council’s office bearers held a meeting with the Pakistani High Commissioner Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, who shared his vision to chalk out the strategy for enhancing bilateral, economic and trade relations.

The Council members formally welcomed the high commissioner on January 27 and hosted a dinner in which important Malaysians, Malaysians of Pakistani origin and Pakistanis, mainly belonging to the business sector participated.

MALPAK Chairman Dato’ Nazir in his address appreciated the high commissioner’s keen interest in promoting business between the two countries and assured his team’s full support to Zakaria’s endeavours towards enhancing bilateral economic cooperation.

The high commissioner while taking pride in the vibrant Pakistani diaspora’s achievements, undertook to make all-out efforts towards the common objective of taking the Pakistan-Malaysia relations to a higher level in order to commensurate the huge existing market potential.

He identified the areas that could be exploited to make the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) more effective and highlighted the ongoing investment cooperation between the two countries.
