KARACHI: Sindh Excise, Taxation, Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla revealed on Friday that during the current fiscal year, Sindh Excise Department has recovered Rs36.4 billion from July to December 2018, as compared to the Rs30 billion collected in the same period last year.
The ET&NC minister was presiding over a meeting in his office on Friday. Sindh Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control Secretary Abdul Rahim Shaikh, Excise and Taxation Director General Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh and other directors also attended the meeting.
Briefing the meeting, Director General Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh said that Rs3.5 billion were recovered through motor vehicle tax, Rs28.5 billion through infrastructure cess and Rs247 million through professional tax.
Similarly, he said, Rs146 million were recovered through cotton fee, Rs1.37 billion through property tax, Rs32 million through entertainment duty while remaining amount was recovered through other taxes.
On the occasion, Sindh Minister for Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla asked officers to work harder and bring improvement in collection of property tax. He also expressed his satisfaction over the overall recovery of the taxes and asked the officers to issue computerized challans instead of manual challans for property tax.
