ISLAMABAD: The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has sought Rs1.86 per unit hike in the power tariff under the head monthly fuel price adjustment.
CPPA, on behalf of the distribution companies (DISCOs), has filed a petition for power tariff hike with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for all the power distribution companies, except K-Electric. NEPRA would take a decision in this regard on October 2, 2019.
The CPPA, in its application, advocated that the actual fuel cost during the ongoing month of August was higher than the cost charged from the consumers. “So, an increase of Rs1.86 per unit should be allowed which will be recovered from electricity consumers during the upcoming month of October,” it added.
According to the CCPA, during the month of August, 40.33pc of the electricity was generated from hydel sources while the share of share coal-fired power generation remained 13.34pc, natural gas sources 11.87pc, imported Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) 22.89pc, Furnace Oil-based electricity 3.60pc and nuclear plants 4.66pc respectively.
It is pertinent to mention that the higher tariff, which is likely to be approved by the regulator, will generate additional revenue for the power companies during the next billing month.
However, the new tariff will not be applicable to the lifeline consumers (who use less than 50 units a month) and the power consumers of K-Electric.
