ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in contravention of rules has ordered the release of Rs570 million for the upgradation of a hospital in Rawalpindi.

This allocation of Rs570 million for the hospital’s upgrade comes from the current financial years development programme reserves of Rs40 billion, reported Express Tribune.

The PM has also ordered the disbursement of an additional Rs230 million to meet present year expenditures and for next four years.

Also, Rs115 million have been directed to be released under a supplementary grant for recovery of reappearing costs during financial year 2017-18.

And the Planning Ministry has directed all its officers to report to Development Budget Adviser Asif Sheikh in matters relating to PM orders regarding politically motivated schemes.

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) hasn’t yet given go-ahead for Cantonment General Hospital Project. This project is expected to receive go-ahead due to its importance in the meeting of CDWP set to be held next week, stated sources in the planning ministry.

In this regard, a one-time grant of Rs570 million under the PSDP 2017-18 will be released for this project according to orders issued by PM’s office last month.

This grant will be given from Special Federal Development Programme and Rs40 billion out of it has been spent on reconstruction of roads, electricity and gas supply to areas suggested by PML-N parliamentarians.

According to the PC-I available with Planning Commission of the cantonment hospital, this project will be concluded in 2.5 years’ time.

The disbursement of Rs570m on an immediate basis would assist the hospital’s management in keeping these funds in a bank account and earn profit on it, said a ministry official.
