Tractor production decreases 29pc in seven months FY19

ISLAMABAD: Tractor production in the country during the first seven months of the current financial year (FY19) witnessed a decrease of 29.18pc as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

According to the provisional quantum index numbers of Large-Scale Manufacturing (LSM) industries, as many as 27,644 tractors were assembled locally during July-January FY19, as compared to the production of 39,033 tractors during the same period last year.

Local tractor production also remained down on a month-on-month basis, as 1,675 tractors were assembled in January 2019 as compared 6,419 tractors in January 2018.

Meanwhile, local production of trucks fell by 20.88pc, as about 4,255 trucks were manufactured during the first seven months of FY19 as compared to production of 39,033 trucks during the same period of FY18.

In January this year, as many as 504 trucks were manufactured locally, compared to the production of 864 trucks in January 2018.

On the other hand, local assembling of buses grew by 32.41pc, as about 576 buses were manufactured during the seven months of FY19 as against the production of 435 buses during the same period of FY18.

In January 2019, about 61 buses were produced locally as compared the production of 26 buses in January last year.

Moreover, local production of jeeps and cars during the first seven months of FY19 witnessed a growth of about 1.73pc (138,514 jeeps and cars were manufactured). During the same period of FY18, the production of cars and jeeps stood at 136,159.

During the period under review, the local assembling of light commercial vehicles reduced by 11.51pc, while assembling of motorcycles reduced by 9.39pc.

Around 15,561 light commercial vehicles were produced during the first seven months of FY19 as compared the production of 51,561 vehicles in seven months of FY18. Similarly, production of motorcycles was recorded at 1,485,416 during the first seven months of FY19, as against the production of 1,639,372 during the same period of FY18.
