The United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Pakistan, Mohammad Yasin MP, has begun a three-day official visit to Karachi and Islamabad, aimed at strengthening bilateral trade relations and encouraging long-term investment between the two nations.
The visit follows the UK’s recent rollout of its Growth Mission and Modern Industrial Strategy — key pillars of the Invest 2035 initiative. This ten-year vision seeks to provide clarity and strategic continuity for businesses operating in high-growth sectors such as clean energy, digital technologies, life sciences, and advanced manufacturing.
Commenting on the visit, Yasin stated:
“The UK and Pakistan already enjoy deep commercial ties, but there is much more we can achieve together. It is a place close to my heart, and I have seen over many years the enormous potential to help both our countries prosper. During my visit, I look forward to supporting efforts that unlock new opportunities and drive growth.”
Currently, more than 200 British companies are active in Pakistan, with the top five firms contributing nearly one percent of the country’s GDP. The UK remains Pakistan’s largest trading partner in Europe and its leading source of foreign direct investment (FDI).
During his visit, Yasin is scheduled to meet with key government officials, including Jawad Paul, Secretary of Commerce, and Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis. He will also engage with business leaders and industry stakeholders to identify new areas for commercial collaboration and investment.
This high-level mission is expected to lay the foundation for the UK-Pakistan Trade Dialogue, slated to launch later this year. The dialogue aims to boost bilateral exports, attract greater investment, and address regulatory barriers and market access issues to improve the overall ease of doing business.
The UK government regards Pakistan as a strategic partner in its global trade agenda and sees this visit as a vital step toward expanding economic cooperation, fostering innovation, and supporting sustainable development in both countries.
