ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Member Sindh Rafique Ahmad Shaikh on Wednesday raised serious objections over a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award ceremony held at NEPRA Headquarters without the approval of the authority.
NEPRA member Sindh said that the invitation for the ceremony was sent through email to all licensees without the approval of the authority.
He said NEPRA should not be the part of any activity which in any manner directly or indirectly involves money matters.
According to him, the role of NEPRA to help or guide its licensees to join hands with a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) under its “Power with Prosperity (PwP)” drive is not justified.
The first ever CSR award ceremony which has later become controversial was organised by NEPRA to celebrate the achievements of NEPRA’s licensees in the area of CSR.
The ceremony was chaired by NEPRA Chairman Tauseef H. Farooqi, and was attended by a large number of NEPRA professionals and licensees including, K-Electric, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Engro and others.
