PEECA sheds light on importance of energy conservation

Punjab Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency (PEECA), in collaboration with Pakistan Green Building Council, held a workshop on ‘Energy Conservation Building Codes’ in Rawalpindi.

PEECA Programme Manager Abdur Rehman, Technical Manager Asad Mehmood and other stakeholders and public representatives were present on the occasion.

In his speech, the PEECA programme manager said meeting the increasing demand for electricity would be a huge challenge in the future.

“Owing to a rapid increase in Pakistan’s population, at least 10 million houses and infrastructure would be needed in the next decade,” he said, adding that Punjab government, keeping in mind the future needs, has started electricity prevention through proper codes.

“These codes will be implemented on houses and commercial buildings in the first phase,” he stated. Abdur Rehman added that the government has also started a programme to make home appliances energy efficient under which the fan manufacturing industry would be brought at par with three-star standards.

“By following the codes, we can save up to 40pc electricity,” he asserted.
